A VPS technology is a virtualization technology that uses containers as opposed to virtual machines. Two known technologies that use this method are:

  • Virtuzzo
  • OpenVZ

Technologies that are not VPS includes, but is not limited to:

  • VMWare
  • Xen
  • KVM
  • lguest
